Last year, Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel, the flagship hotel of Oriental Hotels & Resorts, exhibited a Christmas display using our paper thread " TSUMUGI ."
The fabric used in this display has been dyed using a new technique called "nokori dyeing," and the upcycled fabric has been turned into cherry blossom coasters.
This will be on display in the lobby from Thursday, March 21st , in line with the predicted cherry blossom season.
■ Remaining dye
This is a new dyeing method that uses leftovers or discarded parts of food or plants that would normally be thrown away to dye fabric. The cherry blossom-colored material used this time is dyed with thinned wood from second-generation cherry trees in the Neo region of Gifu Prefecture, which is famous for its Usuzumi cherry blossoms. The color only comes out in winter, when the pigment is stored inside the flowers before they bloom, so this time it coincided with the good timing to process the material between Christmas and spring.
